Color and Acrylic Painting

Every color scheme tells a story. Learn how to mix and apply monochromatic, analogous, complementary, and triadic color schemes using still life, landscape, and abstract subject matter. Discover how warm and cool colors work together to make a harmonious painting. Learn how color relationships define genre and painting style in art history. Along with color interactions, we will explore and refine acrylic paint application and techniques such as layering and brushwork. Open to all levels.


 
 

Dive Deeper into Your Art

$275 | Bring your own materials | Intermediate and up | Ages 15+

This class will concentrate on how to communicate and develop a feeling, idea or vision through powerful composition using color, value, texture, scale and balance. The colors you use, the marks you make and the subjects you choose make up a visual language that need time and practice to develop. Each student will work on their own thematically guided series using the materials of their choice. Students may work in any medium.

 

Abstracting the Landscape with Collage
Instructor: Susan Maakestad

Students will work with found photographs and hand painted papers to create landscape collages. The principles of abstraction will be introduced and investigated. Sensitivity to color, texture and two-dimensional design will be sharpened.  Suitable for beginners. Please bring complex photos of the landscape to use as a reference. 



 

Oil Painting: Working in a Series
Instructor: Sunny Montgomery

April 2nd - April 23rd | 4 Sessions
$225 + $50 Materials Fee | Intermediate and up | Ages 15+

Students will work on developing their individual style by using different source materials, such as photos, art history, memory, and direct observation. Students will focus on a specific subject matter or content for six weeks. A variety of creative exercises and group discussions will be an important aspect of your studio concentration. Some painting experience helpful.

 


 

 

Getting Comfortable with Your Sketchbook

Your sketchbook is a place for sketches, ideas, impressions, and a place to work out problems - artistic or otherwise. This class will start you on your practice of using a sketchbook by exploring materials, sketching from direct observation, and other techniques to get to know your sketchbook better.

 

Sculpture: Drawing with Wire
Instructor: Nikii Richey

In this workshop, students will learn how to turn simple lines into three dimensional sculptures. We will begin with connections and gauges then move on to construction and volume. Whether you are using only wire or adding other elements, such as yarn and fabric, the possibilities of wire sculpture are endless. Come ready to play!
