Adult Art Classes

At Flicker Street Studio, we have small classes which ensures individual instruction. The Instructors put a lot of care and work into offering the best art instruction possible. The studio provides materials to the students to avoid any unnecessary preparations and expense for the student prior to class. Please look over our class policies before you sign up. SUMMER SATURDAY WORKSHOPS

June 9 • Drawing and Painting the Portrait with Kate Bradley
$100 • Saturday • 10:00am – 3:00 pm • Materials Included
This class will focus on composition, value studies, free- hand measurements, planar development and mixing flesh tones for creating realistic portraits.

June 16 • Watercolor with Nancy Cheairs
$100 • Saturday • 10:00am – 3:00 pm • Materials Included
Students will bring in a photo or sketch to use as a reference for exploring paint application, color, and composition. The result will be a group of small paintings that shows how one image can be transformed using different techniques, compositions, and imagination.

June 23 • Sketching the Landscape with Elizabeth Alley
$100 • Saturday • 10:00am – 3:00 pm • Materials Included
Using various media, students will go in the field and learn to isolate areas of the landscape to maximize composition, as well as to use shading, line and texture to tell the story of their surroundings. It the weather is too hot or raining, the class will sketch inside from video projection.

June 30 • Pattern and Collage with Kerrie Rogers
$100 • Saturday • 10:00am – 3:00 pm • Materials Included
This class will explore creating layered surfaces. Students will tone and texture papers with watercolors and acrylics for collage and make their own stencils and stamps to create unique backgrounds. Image transfers will also be covered. Students may bring items that they want to use in their collage, such as copyright free laser images for transfer, sketchbook pages, fabric or wallpaper swatches, maps and letters or pages with text. The teacher will also provide items for collages. Your finished piece will have your unique style and personal expression.

July 7 • Creative Bookmaking with Fredrich Kerksieck
$100 • Saturday • 10:00am – 3:00 pm • Materials Included
Students will learn one of the most classic & useful multiple signature binding methods. While the workshop will focus on the craft of successful binding, we’ll be adding mixed media & collage elements to the covers before sewing the books. Participants are welcome to bring their own collage materials for sewing, stapling, gluing & painting, although the instructor will have materials available as well. Students will get enough text block and cover material to create three handmade journals and instructions to continue with their own creative projects at home.

July 14 • Exploring Abstraction in Acrylics with Melissa Dunn

Students will explore the limitless world of abstraction while learning the basics of color mixing, the importance of composition and the versatility of acrylic

The basics of drawing are something that we return to again and again. This class is for the rank beginner as well as the experienced artist. Gesture drawing, linear perspective, composition, line and value will be the focus for this class.

July 28 • Comic Book Illustration, Create Your Own Superhero with Tripp Lamkins

This class will delve into figure drawing involving complex stick men and anatomy, page flow, such as two people talking, and how to draw details and objects will be covered. Students will also learn about constructing a page and inking.
